Professional knowledge of English is not limited to the work of a translator. Individuals who graduate from English Philology go on to become language teachers in exotic countries, specialists in computational linguistics, journalists, politicians, actors, and even singers. Being fluent in the most widely spoken international language opens up global opportunities in various fields. Can you picture yourself in any of these roles? Then choose our English Philology study programme. Here, you will learn about the linguistic and discursive subtleties of the English language and acquire fundamental philological knowledge and the necessary competences in the fields of translation studies, literary theory, and English language teaching methodology. You will study phonetics, linguistics, morphology, and syntax, and learn the main translation strategies. You will also analyse British, American, and Canadian literature and its development, explore the importance of the literary text, examine various methodologies for teaching and learning foreign languages, and explore the possibilities of information technology in this process. You will also have the opportunity to select elective courses that personally interest you, such as ethnic minority, women’s and children’s literature in English, or gain a deeper insight into American and British civilisation, the field of semantic studies, the characteristics of language in different media, and many other interesting subjects. Career opportunities

The graduates of English Philology will become specialists, capable of working in a variety of fields. They will satisfy the educational, academic, cultural, economic and other needs of the workplace and will be capable of carrying out intellectual and cultural work independently.
The graduates of the Programme can expect to continue their career by:

• working as translators and/or interpreters;
• teaching English in schools;
• taking employment in public institutions such as banks, business companies and various organizations which need staff members with good knowledge of English;
• working as administrators in large international companies and EU organizations, combining their English skills with more specific business skills;
• entering Master studies;
• continuing their studies in the way they decide.
